I’m thankful that the meaning of travel isn’t limited to grabbing your passport, jumping on a plane, and flying far, far away to some exotic land. I’m thankful for this because, while that is my favourite kind of travel, it isn’t always practical and certainly can’t be part of everyday life. I am happy that I have finally realised that doesn’t mean that travel can’t be though!
This past long weekend was the perfect opportunity to explore my own backyard and discover places I live so close to, but never knew existed. From roads lined with red; yellow; and orange leaves, winding up and down hills and valleys, to the coast, catching glimpses of a never-ending blanket of blue, sparkling under the sun, there is just so much beauty around. When we have the chance to travel, we don’t often think of travelling to areas we are close to because they are always there, being taken for granted.
However, I loved having my eyes opened to the beauty of the place I call home, finding some new, breath-taking view only a few hours away. Even if you only have one or two days for a getaway, I say use it to travel. Not to travel far, but to stay close to home and explore. We often fail to truly recognise the beauty of what is right in front of us, whether we have seen it before of not.
